Barack Obama for President
Barack Obama has
become a candidate for the democrats to become the president
of the United States. Obama has dedicated his life to the
public service as a community organizer, a civil rights
attorney, and a Senate leader for the Illinois state. Barack
Obama has chosen Joe Biden as his vice-president and
together as a team they will do good things for our country
and the economic state we are in. Obama opponents are John
McCain and Sarah Palin who are for the republican side.
Barack Obama was
born in Hawaii and was raised in an economic disadvantaged
family with only his mother and grandparents. Obama’s
father, Barack Obama Sr., left for Kenya and left his family
behind. Later in his life, he left for New York and
graduated from the Columbia University in 1983. After he
went to Harvard and earned his law degree in 1991 and became
the first African-American president of the Harvard Law
Review. He then ran for the Illinois state senate and became
the third African-American to be elected into senate after
reconstruction.
As a senator, he
had to work with both republicans and democrats and had
created the state Earned Income Tax credit. Obama also
worked with law enforcement to require them to videotape all
interrogations and confessions in capital cases. Obama also
traveled to Russia with republican Richard Lugar to begin a
new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find
and secure deadly weapons around the world. As Obama
understands the threat of our economy and our addiction to
foreign oil, he has began to work with the auto industry,
unions, farmers, businesses, and politicians of both parties
to promote the greater use of alternative fuels with farmers
and higher the fuel standards in all newly produced
vehicles.
Obama continues
to lead on the issues that will define America in the 21st
century. He has served as a member of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, Veterans Affairs Committee, the Labor
and Pensions committee, and part of the Homeland Security
and Governmental Affairs committee. Barack Obama thinks that
the United States combat forces should be cut out of Iraq by
spring of 2009 to end “a foreign policy disaster.”
Obama’s issues
and reasons for becoming president are good. He wants to get
the troops out of Iraq which will help save our tax dollars
and wants to find new ways to power cars and find
alternative energy. Obama knows that the road though out the
White House will be long and rough but he is ready to take
that trip and try to improve what needs to be. Obama wants
to help out families and help to end poverty within the
middle class. Obama knows how hard it is to live in these
times and wants to help everyone out so people are not
suffering.

Junior
High to high school
(the
scariest ten weeks of my life)
Going from Junior High to High
School is a big step for a sophomore to make. There are many
adjustments that a sophomores need to make before they can
become comfortable with the change. One student interviewed
felt the need to be more ready for class and more prompt
than they were in Junior High. High School teachers are less
ready to hunt you down for missing homework. or make you
stay after school for extra help. These things High School
students need to learn to do on their own. High School are
also less tolerant for late students or unprepared students.
In Junior High, problems that are dealt with quickly in High
School, may be less recognized.
The homework load is pushed up a notch. For example, in
Junior High, you might only have to read a chapter for
English homework. In High School, you will have to read two
chapters. The teachers have to teach at a faster pace to get
all the material in before the end of the year when its
regents time. Study Halls might be seen less in on the
schedule that you get, in order to get all of your credits
by the end of your senior year. So time management comes
into play. How much did you learn in Junior High.
There is also some good with the bad. In High School you can
get more friends. People you didn't hang out with before
become people that you can easily have a conversation with.
Your class schedule can vary so that you have different
classes than your friends from Junior High have. This is not
a problem, but it allows you to have a wider variety of
friends. Some freshmen have also said that the new lunch
period is nicer. I Junior High younger kids eat at the same
time and the room is very noisy. In High School, there are
only High School students in there at a time and the noise
level is cut down quite a bit.
Teachers, friends, and homework aren't the only things that
change when you get into High School. Sports are another
adjustment that a sophomore can deal with on top of all the
things they have to get used to at school. In JV or Modified
they could have been an older or more experienced player,
but in Varsity they become a rookie. In Varsity the
intensity and over all playing technique changes. In most
schools its almost impossible to get on a Varsity team as a
sophomore. Let alone dealing with trying out and being cut
from the team, a sophomore might not gain the playing time
that they would like. Modified is a stepping stone where you
learn the basics for playing on a school team. JV you begin
to try harder and start to understand the game and start
looking at different plays. On Varsity, you play to win. It
is a huge feat to make it on a Varsity team and to be one of
the best players.
Being a sophomore in High School is tough at first, but then
as the year progresses, students begin to get used to it. By
the end of the year everything is habit, and you know how to
react when a certain situation arises. Sophomores learn to
deal with the hierarchy of High School. of High School. Its
not an easy thing to deal with, but in the end you get used
to it, and wait for your turn to be able to do the same
thing. The transition from going from Junior High to High
School may seem impossible and hard at times, but at the end
of the day it is still doable.

John McCain for President
John Sidney McCain III was born August
29th, 1936. His father and grandfather were four
star admirals. McCain followed in their footsteps. When the
Vietnam War began, McCain volunteered for combat and began
flying carrier- based attacks. His plane was shot down and
he became a POW. On December 9th, 1969, he was
put in Hoa Loa prison. He was offered to be released but he
refused. McCain did not want to violate the military code of
conduct. When he was released he received the Silver Star,
bronze star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross.
In 1976 he was assigned as the Navy’s
lesion to the U.S. Senate. Because of his war record, he was
first elected political office on November second, 1982;
easily winning a seat in the House of Representatives. He
was reelected in 1984, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in
1986.
Why is John McCain right to lead our
country during these tough times? Well, since early in his
life in the Navy, McCain has learned that to maintain his
self respect for a lifetime, it would be necessary for him
to have the honor of serving something greater than his self
interest; service for his country. McCain has always put his
countries interests before any part, even his own self
interest. He has always, and will always do what is right
for his country. He is a born leader.
In McCain’s words,
-
Economy:
“high tax rates are driving businesses and jobs over
seas. When I am elected president we are going to get
rid of that drag on growth and job creation and help
American workers compete with any company in the world.”
-
National
Security: “Too critical to our own National Security to
be jeopardized by artificial or political inspired time
tables that neither reflects conditions on the ground
nor respect the official advice of our military
commanders.”
-
Health Care
and Retirement: “We envision a new Medicaid partnership
with the states, improving public health through
flexibility and invocation.”
-
Energy and
Environment: “The world is already feeling the powerful
effects of global warming, and far more dire
consequences are predicted if we let the growing deluge
of greenhouse gas emissions continue, and wreak havoc
with God’s creation. A group of senior retired military
officers recently warned about the potential upheaval
caused by conflicts over water, arable land and other
natural resources under strain from a warming planet.
The problem isn’t a Hollywood invention nor is doing
something about it a vanity of Cassandra like hysterics.
It is a serious and urgent economic, environmental and
National Security challenge.”
-
Immigration: “Things are terrible, and we’ve got to
fix it. But we’re not going to fix it until we have
comprehensive immigration reform. When there’s a demand,
there’s a demand, there’s going to be a supply. There
are jobs that Americans will not do, so we have to make
it possible for someone to come to this country to do a
job that an American won’t do and then go back to the
country from where they came.”
